Brant/Brent Goose (Branta bernicla), Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii) the cackling goose looks remarkably similar to the Canada goose. In fact, until 2004 these two geese were grouped as the same species, Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) Greater White-fronted Goose (Anser albifrons) Ross’s Goose (Chen rossii) Native to North America, the Ross’s goose breeds in Canada and travels to the southern US (particularly central and southern California) and northern Mexico for winter. Snow Goose (Chen caerulescens) The snow goose, also sometimes known as the blue goose because they can possess a blue-grey color variant (but are still the same species), is native to North America and Europe. They breed in the summer in Canada, northern Alaska, and occasionally Greenland and Siberia. They spend winters in southern portions of the US and northern Mexico.
